Altico Expands Production with BAC-1000 Mobile Bagging Line

Altico is a family-run business and a proud national supplier of landscape and garden products. As its product portfolio and customer base grew, the business needed to expand production capacity. To meet this demand, Altico partnered with Bulk Automation and selected the BAC-1000 for its high output and compact footprint.

Bulk Material Feed

The BAC-1000 introduces bulk material into the system via a hopper and in-feed conveyor. Together, these components ensure a smooth, uninterrupted flow of raw materials into the bagging line. As a result, the system reduces delays and improves efficiency.

Weighing and Dosing System

Once the material enters the system, it is either weighed accurately before filling or volumetrically dosed directly into the Form Fill & Seal (VFFS) machine. This ensures accurate dosing and consistent bag weights.

Form Fill & Seal (VFFS) Bagging Machine

The BAF-1000VF1 vertical packaging machine handles medium-sized packaging requirements reliably and efficiently. It delivers high output at a competitive price, making it a cost-effective choice for businesses. The machine produces up to 1,000 bags per hour, with bag sizes ranging from 5 to 20 kg. Depending on requirements, it produces either pillow or gusset-style bags, with a compact square format measuring up to 470 × 680 mm.

The process starts with a flat film reel, which the machine forms into a bag around a tube. Next, it seals the bag vertically and horizontally, creating an airtight three-seal package. At the same time, a pair of servo-controlled rubber belts pull the film to the desired length. Meanwhile, the dosing unit delivers the correct amount of product into each bag, ensuring precise filling every time.

Bag Handling

Once filled, bags move along a series of conveyors, including rumble conveyors and bag flatteners. Together, these components ensure each bag is correctly shaped and oriented for palletising. As a result, the robot receives bags in optimal condition, improving speed and accuracy.

Robot Palletising

The high-speed ABB 460 robot significantly boosts line productivity by efficiently palletising bags. In addition, an automated pallet handling system dispenses empty pallets and prepares them for loading. Once a pallet is full, it moves to the accumulation zone, where fork truck operators can retrieve it as needed.

With a capacity of up to 1,000 small bags per hour, this system delivers efficient bulk material handling. The automated pallet system maintains a smooth flow of incoming bulk materials and outgoing full pallets, helping to streamline the entire packaging operation.
