Bulk Aggregates & Industrial Minerals Packaging
Long Rake Spar Co Ltd, renowned for their expertise in high-quality decorative aggregates and industrial minerals, have taken another bold step forward in modernizing their operations with the installation of the BAC1000 Mobile Packaging Unit.
The new unit went into service this week at the company’s flagship Rye Harbour production site in East Sussex. Boosting production of washed and unwashed aggregates that are distributed nationwide. Its deployment underlines Long Rake Spar’s commitment to efficiency, scalability, and customer responsiveness.
Designed with flexibility at its core, the BAC1000 can be moved and made fully operational within just two days. This agility allows the system to be used strategically across the company’s four busy production sites at Rye (East Sussex), Youlgrave (Derbyshire), Garston (Liverpool), and Prees (Shropshire), ensuring demand is met wherever it arises.
The machine brings advanced automation to the process, combining modern bag-filling and robotic palletizing technology. This not only streamlines operations but also expands production capacity by an additional 100,000 tonnes. Taking Long Rake Spar’s overall capability to up to 850,000 tonnes per year.
Trevor Broadhurst, owner and managing director of Long Rake Spar, who has led the company for more than 40 years, emphasized the importance of the investment:

“Long Rake Spar continue to grow, and this new investment expands our capacity but critically it allows us to be flexible on location. Within just two days the new bagging unit can be deployed at one of our four production sites to allow us to be nimble in responding to customer needs. We continue to innovate with products, technology, and taking a smart approach to the future of the business. I am delighted to see this new mobile bagging unit come online and strengthen the capabilities of Long Rake Spar as a whole.”
The BAC1000’s features further demonstrate why it is such a valuable addition:
- On-site flexibility – Fully relocatable, enabling production wherever it’s required.
- Automated packaging – Reducing manual handling while delivering consistent, high-speed performance.
- Scalable design – Future-proofed to grow alongside demand.
