Altico Expands Production with BAC-1000 Mobile Bagging Line

Altico is a family-run business and a proud national supplier of landscape and garden products. With a growing portfolio of products and customers, they needed to expand production capacity. To achieve this, they partnered with Bulk Automation and selected the BAC-1000 for its unrivalled output and compact footprint.

Bulk Material Feed

The BAC-1000 introduces bulk material into the system via a hopper and in-feed conveyor. This design ensures a smooth and uninterrupted flow of raw materials into the bagging line, reducing delays and improving efficiency.

Weighing and Dosing System

Next, the system either precisely weighs the product before filling the bag or volumetrically doses it directly into the Form Fill & Seal (VFFS) machine. As a result, it maintains accuracy and consistent bag weight.

Form Fill & Seal (VFFS) Bagging Machine

The MF 54 vertical packaging machine handles medium-sized packaging needs reliably and efficiently. It offers high output at a competitive price, making it a cost-effective choice for businesses. The machine produces up to 1,000 bags per hour, with sizes ranging from 5 to 20 kg. Bags are either pillow or gusset style, with a compact square shape that can reach 470×680 mm.

Packaging Process

The process starts with a flat film reel, which the machine forms into a bag around a tube. It seals the bag vertically and horizontally, creating an airtight three-seal package. Meanwhile, a pair of servo-controlled rubber belts pull the film to the desired length. Simultaneously, the dosing unit delivers the correct amount of product into each bag, ensuring precise filling every time.

Bag Handling

Filled bags move along a series of conveyors, including rumble conveyors and bag flatteners. This setup ensures each bag is correctly shaped and oriented for palletizing. As a result, the robot receives bags in optimal condition, improving speed and accuracy.

Robot Palletising

The high-speed ABB 460 robot significantly boosts line productivity by efficiently palletizing bags. An automated pallet handling system dispenses empty pallets and prepares them for loading. Once full, pallets move to the accumulation zone, where fork truck operators retrieve them as needed.

This system processes up to 1,000 small bags per hour, making it highly efficient for bulk material handling. Furthermore, the automated pallet system maintains a smooth flow of incoming bulk materials and outgoing full pallets, creating a streamlined operation for packed products.
